Spectroscopic properties of the low-lying electronic states and laser cooling feasibility for the SrI molecule

Laser cooling of a molecule with heavy nuclei is often complicated because of the density distribution of the electronic states. Here, we evaluate the feasibility of the laser cooling of the SrI molecule by calculating the potential energy curves and transition dipole moments of the ground and low-lying excited states using the multi-reference configuration interaction plus Davidson corrections (MRCI + Q) and the all-electron basis sets of ANO-RCC. The relativistic effect and the spin-orbit coupling splits are included, because both Sr and I are heavy atoms. Based on the obtained potential energy curves, we solve the Schrödinger equation of nuclear motion to determine the rovibrational energy levels and the Franck-Condon factors. The spectroscopic parameters are obtained by fitting the rovibrational energy levels with the Dunham expression. The radiation lifetimes, the Doppler and recoil temperatures between the X²Σ⁺ and the ²Π_1/2/²Π_3/2/B²Σ⁺ states are calculated. 5-color laser cooling schemes for the molecule are proposed, which can lead to the total effective Franck-Condon factors being 0.99983, 0.99979, and 0.99941 for the three transitions, respectively. All the obtained results suggest that the SrI molecule is a feasible candidate for laser cooling.     

Defects related emission and nanosecond optical power limiting in CuS quantum dots

We report optical and nonlinear optical properties of CuS quantum dots and nanoparticles prepared through a nontoxic, green, one-pot synthesis method. The presence of surface states and defects in the quantum dots are evident from the luminescent behavior and enhanced nonlinear optical properties measured using the open aperture Z-scan, employing 5 ns laser pulses at 532 nm. The quantum dots exhibit large effective third order nonlinear optical coefficients with a relatively lower optical limiting threshold of 2.3 J cm⁻², and the optical nonlinearity arises largely from absorption saturation and excited state absorption. Results suggest that these materials are potential candidates for designing efficient optical limiters with applications in laser safety devices.

Additive Hermitian idempotent preservers between operator algebras

Let L be an additive map between (real or complex) matrix algebras sending $n\times n$ Hermitian idempotent matrices to $m\times m$ Hermitian idempotent matrices. We show that there are nonnegative integers $p,q$ with $n(p+q)=r\le m$ and an $m\times m$ unitary matrix U such that$L(A)=U[(I_p?A)\oplus (I_q?A^t)\oplus 0_{m?r}]U^{?},\text{for any}n\times n\text{Hermitian}A\text{with rational trace}.$ We also extend this result to the (complex) von Neumann algebra setting, and provide a supplement to the Dye-Bunce-Wright Theorem asserting that every additive map of Hermitian idempotents extends to a Jordan ?-homomorphism.     

Global stability of the Armstrong-Frederick model with periodic biaxial inputs

The paper is concerned with the study of plasticity models described by differential equations with stop and play operators. We suggest sufficient conditions for the global stability of a unique periodic solution for the scalar models and for the vector models with biaxial inputs of a particular form, namely the sum of a uniaxial function and a constant term. For another class of simple biaxial inputs, we present an example of the existence of unstable periodic solutions. The paper was written during the research stay of D. In situ neutron diffraction study (300-1273 K) of non-stoichiometric strontium ferrite SrFeOx

The high-temperature cubic phase of non-stoichiometric strontium ferrite SrFeO_x (2.5≤x≤3.0) has been studied by in situ neutron powder diffraction in air over the temperature range 300-1273 K. The composition of SrFeO_x changes within the range 2.56≤x≤2.81 from 1273 to 673 K, respectively.Rietveld refinements of the diffraction patterns show that the high-temperature cubic phase of SrFeO_x is consistent with a face-centred Fm3c structure. This structure leads to agreement with previous density measurements. This cell allows the high-temperature structure of SrFeO_x to be described in terms of a solid solution of the composition end members. Cubic SrFeO_x at high temperature is found to closely obey Vegard's law. The density of cubic SrFeO_x is also found to exhibit a linear relationship with composition.
